The dance faculty and students at the Ernestine M. Raclin School of the Arts at IU South Bend will present “Studies in Dance: A Lecture Demonstration” Nov. 2.
The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Northside Hall’s Campus Auditorium. The instructors will discuss dance styles while students present classroom combinations as examples of the variety of dance offered in classes at IU South Bend.
“Studies in Dance” will feature segments about ballet, flamenco, jazz, Latin, Middle Eastern, modern, and social dance. Halana Hattery, Carolynn Hine-Johnson, Ruby Jazayre, Karen Pajor, Vladimir Sorokin, and David Seymour will be the presenting faculty.
Not a typical dance recital, “Studies in Dance” will be a sampling of different dance techniques and styles, according to school staff. The audience will have an opportunity to learn the background of various styles along with some of the current practices within that tradition.
New this year, the dance program at IU South Bend is offering tap dance classes taught by Karen Pajor, who also teaches jazz dance. Also, IU South Bend has another jazz teacher, Kelly Morgan, who will offer an African dance class in the spring semester.
Tickets for “Studies in Dance: A Lecture Demonstration” are available for $3 to $5 and are free to students and children. Tickets can be picked up in advance or at the door the night of the event.
