Camerata Singers to perform Friday in Goshen

GOSHEN — Bluffton University’s Camerata Singers will perform in concert at 7 p.m. Friday at Pleasant View Mennonite Church, 58529 C.R. 23, Goshen.

The local appearance is part of the choral group’s spring-break tour in Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, Kansas and Michigan. Its 25 members represent a variety of academic disciplines across campus. The conductor, Mark J. Suderman, is a professor of music and director of choral activities at Bluffton.

“Promises of God’s Reign” is the concert theme. The music is designed to explore four promises: peace, comfort, hope and deliverance. Passages of Scripture will be used in each section of the program to introduce the music connected with those promises.

The choral selections in the program come from a variety of textual and musical sources, including major works, spirituals, gospel music, hymn tunes and pieces from various historical periods.

Founded in 1899 in northwest Ohio, Bluffton University is part of the education mission of Mennonite Church USA. Bluffton is designated as an “All-Steinway School” and accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music
