Art street fair to honor local emergency workers

Wawasee news

The fifth annual Celebrating the Arts Street Fair will take place in Syracuse and surrounding communities Sept. 11. Centered at Ind. 13 and Main Street in Syracuse, the fest will feature live music, food, a community tug-of-war and displays by more than 50 local artists.

This year the festival, which runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., will focus on honoring local police officers, firefighters and emergency medical service workers. Money raised through prize raffles will go toward supporting those organizations.

Syracuse bars and restaurants will have live entertainment throughout the day. Other features include a beer garden, antique sales, kids’ activities and a pool tournament. For more information, call organizer Tammy Kratzer at 457-8006.

The North Webster Cemetery Walk will be Sept. 12 from 1 to 3 p.m. Guided tours will leave every 30 minutes from North Webster Community Public Library, and golf carts will be available for people with difficulty walking.

Graves of notable local residents from years past will be highlighted, with living residents telling their stories and acting in character. Featured residents were chosen through an essay contest at the library earlier this year.

Those who, with a little help, will be sharing their story this year include Vida Greider, J. Homer Shoop, Lester and Vera White, Thurman and Alice Rinker and John Heddens Jr.

For its September meeting, the Kosciusko County Women’s Connection will present a workshop on stress-free living. “Less Stress Please,” set for Sept. 9 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the North Webster Community Center, will feature female speakers and a lunch.

Complimentary childcare will be provided. For reservations, contact Diane Miller at dfmiller606@hotmail.com.

Indiana is now the only state in the union that prohibits carry-out alcohol sales on Sunday. What do you think about Indiana’s current law?

It’s time to make the sale of carry-out alcohol legal on Sundays.
The state should continue to prohibit Sunday carry-out alcohol sales.
I really don’t care one way or the other.
