I couldn’t believe the big, black headline in The Goshen News the other day that said “GC to play anthem — sometimes” all across the front page of the paper. Why, one would think the President’s Council of the college has made a change in tradition after “years” of discussion.
I wonder if that President’s Council has any discussions about government money coming into the college? I wonder if they ever thank God that we are not all speaking German, if the rotten United States hadn’t stopped Hitler and his Nazi regime from marching through the college?
I read Mr. Gleysteen’s article the other day in a newspaper about the tough times he had with the German army occupation when he was little. But I’ll bet his peace-keeping mind was pretty happy when the American forces ended his misery and he was able to come to Goshen to go to college, then go on to Scottdale, Pa., my home town, with the freedom he was given.
Respecting then national anthem has nothing to do with losing your love for God. I’m surprised the way Goshen’s liberal college has accepted our current president with his anti-God movements on abortions and putting my grandchildren and great-grandchildren into debt long after I’m gone from this earth. Boy, the good old U.S.A. helps so many people and always has. Yet to show respect for our country by playing its national anthem and worrying it may take away our love for God. ... wow! What kind of a degree does it take to believe that? All I can do is pray — and I don’t mean just for myself.
