GOSHEN —
Three-month-old Adeita McMains was so anxious to come into the world that she couldn’t wait for a short car trip across Goshen to the hospital.
When her mother, Solena McMains, decided her labor was at a point that she should go to the hospital, a friend began driving her from her Wilkinson Street home to IU Health about 9:30 p.m. last Nov. 3.
According to Dustin Saylor, Adeita’s father, as they approached the Old Bag Factory, the baby decided it was time to join the family. The driver pulled into the Bag Factory parking lot to take advantage of the lighting there.
Grandmother Sheila McMains was in the back seat of the car and assisted with the delivery. Goshen paramedics soon arrived to assist and took the mother and her baby on to the hospital.
“It was amazing,” Saylor said. “God was there.”
He said mother and baby are doing fine. The family visited The News office this week to tell their story. Saylor said he and Solena plan to marry on Valentine’s Day in 2013.
