Fitness center opens in Goshen

GOSHEN — Fitness is available for members day or night and even holidays at Fitness Anytime Goshen.

The new fitness facility opened for business Dec. 19, said Joel Koeneman.

“It’s been absolutely great, the response so far,” Koeneman said. “We’ve had more than 100 sign up as members so far.”

Tina Bontrager owns the business along with Koeneman.

“Fitness Anytime is set up to keep people engaged and find ways to keep them comfortable and working out,” Bontrager said.

The owners worked together for more than two years from inception to now in getting the business set up, Koeneman added.

“It came out of a need to help ourselves. We were looking around for a place to work out for our own personal use,” he said. “It was a struggle to find a place consistent with our schedules.”

In time, the details for owning the business “fell into place,” he said.

“We thought since there wasn’t a lot of options and we had gained weight, we became interested and gained a passion for helping other people,” Koeneman said. “It was a need not just for ourselves but for the community, as well.”

The concept of having a fitness facility available anytime for members appeals to the owners, he said.

And to new members like Luke Ronk.

“It’s nice. You can show up anytime. It’s nice to be open on the holiday and you don’t have to worry about any type of hour limits like other places,” Ronk said.

He walked in during the first few days and signed up to be a member.

“The atmosphere is nice and the people who own it are friendly,” Ronk said. “It’s a place I want to come and workout. It’s nice and there’s a lot of different types of equipment available.”

Koeneman said there are 1,800 fitness clubs across the world that provide reciprocity for members after their first 30 days of membership.

“Members can come any time, day and night and go to a clean facility and continue their fitness goals,” Koeneman said. “Anytime Fitness caters to individuals and their goals. It’s a very personal thing and that’s what we focus on. It’s nice to have a smaller environment where everyone (staff) knows their name.”

The owners want to have members and residents of the community feel welcome when they walk in, he added.

“It’s like a boutique style because people are looking for specific results,” he said, “and for those not in a workout routine, we want to get people motivated and involved through their journey. It’s OK to be intimidated and emotional as they go through their journey.”

Bontrager added that Roy and Christine Pickler from NBC’s “The Biggest Loser” show are members at the fitness facility and will be teaching a 13-week biggest winners challenge beginning Jan. 8.

Staffed hours are Mondays to Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.; Fridays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 to 5 p.m.; and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
