Seven young women to compete for scholarships

Middlebury Distinguished Young Woman event is Aug. 4

MIDDLEBURY — Seven contestants will be competing in Middlebury’s Distinguished Young Women  program, formerly known as Middlebury’s Junior Miss program, Aug. 4 at 7 p.m. in Northridge Middle School auditorium.

The theme for this year is “Dance, dance, dance.” Tickets are available from any contestant, at First State Bank’s Middlebury office or by calling Mary Sommers at 536-5294.

Contestants for this year’s program include:

• Susannah Mishler — She is the daughter of John and Carla Mishler. For her talent she will be singing “Show Off” from the Broadway musical, “The Drowsy Chaperone.” Mishler’s sponsor is Affairs to Remember Bridal and her stage mom is Barb Holaway.

• Mackenzie Gray — She is the daughter of Anthony and Autumn Gray. For her talent, she will be playing Matteo Carcassi’s classical guitar piece, “No. 7 in A Minor.” Gray’s sponsor is Titan Sales & Consulting and her stage mom is Tammie Griffin.

• Kayla Coleman — She is the daughter of Mark and Beth Coleman. For her talent, Kayla will be singing, “Popular” from the Tony Award-winning musical “Wicked.” Coleman’s sponsor is The Commodore Corp. and her stage mom is Sarah Miller.

• Jessica Fry — She is the daughter of Jim and Clara Fry. Fry will be tap dancing to the tune “Trickle, Trickle” for her talent. Jessica’s sponsor is Mesk Construction and her stage mom is Rachelle Judd.

• Brittany Wise — She is the daughter of Alan and Patty Wise. For her talent, Wise will be performing a vocal and guitar ballad titled, “Sometimes,” that she composed. Wise’s sponsor is First State Bank and her stage mom is Catherine Roebuck.

• Amy Short — She is the daughter of Gordon and Pat Short. For her talent, she will be singing “When Will My Life Begin” from the Disney movie “Tangled.” Short’s sponsors are L&W Engineering and Winnebago RV and her stage mom is Kris Mueller.

• Alexandra Hochstetler — She is the daughter of Nathan and Rhonda Hochstetler. For her talent, Hochstetler will be playing Mendolssohn’s “Andante and Rondo Capriccioso Op. 14” on the piano. Hochstetler’s sponsor is Darci Forrest – Infuse Salon and her stage mom is Darci Forrest.
