GOSHEN —
Downtown Goshen is going to be hot Friday night.
This month’s First Fridays theme — Hot August Nights — will contain several activities to take advantage of the summer weather. Along with enjoying the staples of First Fridays, volunteers can help build the walls for a Habitat For Humanity home for a Goshen family, shoot hoops to support ADEC, watch police demonstrations, blast down a 50-foot slip ‘n slide, and dunk teachers in a dunk tank.
Habitat Build Blitz
5 to 8 p.m.
Help build the walls of a new home for a Goshen family with Habitat For Humanity of Elkhart County and Goshen City Church of the Brethren volunteers. Meet in the street in front of the Goshen City Church of the Brethren.
Goshen Night Out
6 to 8 p.m.
Join the Goshen Police Department on the 100 block of East Jefferson for hot dogs and ice cream, raffles for kids’ bikes and helmets, carnival games, child fingerprinting, victims’ assistance and neighborhood association resources.
Best Shot Competition at The Shoots 5:30 to 8 p.m.
Join the 3-point shot competition in the parking lot on the corner of Lincoln Ave and 5th Street, presented by ADEC’s Gaining Grounds coffeehouse. Prizes will offer award opportunities to the top three contestants.
Bubblepalooza 6 to 8 p.m.
This is the sixth year of this classic summer event for kids ages two to 10 on the courthouse lawn.
Extreme SplashFest
6 to 8:30 p.m.
Take a ride down a 50-foot slip and slide. Youth ages 11 to 18 must register at the west courthouse lawn information table starting at 5:30 p.m. Participants will need to bring a beach towel and wear appropriate swimwear. A parent or legal guardian must sign a waiver for participants to enjoy this event.
Dunk the teachers
7 to 8 p.m.
Organizers invite anyone age 11 to 18 to dunk local middle school and high school teachers along with other members of the community in a cold water dunk tank. Thirteen teachers from the middle- and high school have already signed up to participate in the dunk tank.
Half-Pint Jones
8 to 9:30 p.m.
This South Bend-based group is a colorful five-piece project of sophisticated funk, jazz, and rock sprinkled with the musical flavors of New Orleans. Bring lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy some great music.
