UPDATE: GHS group performs in Bands of America competition

For the Goshen High School Crimson Marching Band, it was a new measure of success.

The band performed Saturday in the Bands of America Grand Nationals Semifinals at the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. The group had been named one of the top 30 marching bands in the country after performing Thursday in BOA competition.

At 5 p.m. Saturday, the announcements were made for the top 12 bands.

“No, we didn’t make the top 12, which is to be expected since this is our first year (being in the top 30),” GHS band director Tom Cox said. “We’re very happy with how we did. We accomplished our goal of going for the year and the kids are happy with it.”

Their day started at approximately 3:30 a.m. Saturday and was set to end late that evening with their arrival back in Goshen, Cox added.

“Our kids are fantastic and I’m so proud of them,” Cox said Saturday. “We are very fortunate to be here. ...It’s a very good day, but a long day.”

The band director also said, “The band has great kids, the parents are super supportive and I want to thank Goshen Community Schools Superintendent Diane Woodworth and Principal Barry Younghans for allowing us to go.”

Last weekend, the GHS band placed second in Class B competition during ISSMA State Finals at Lucas Oil Stadium.
