GOSHEN —
The Goshen Task Force for the National Day of Prayer announced that several events will take place Thursday to mark the 61st annual prayer event.
The main event will take place on the west lawn of the Elkhart County Courthouse in Goshen at noon.
The gathering will include a time of worship and prayer led by local community members. Goshen Mayor Allan Kauffman will read a proclamation. Worship will begin at 11:45 a.m. for those desiring to gather ahead of time. And the event will finish at 1 p.m.
In case of rain, the alternate site will be LifeSpring community Church, located just south of the courthouse at 116 S. Third St.
The theme for this year’s National Day of Prayer is “One Nation Under God” and takes its inspiration from Psalm 33:12: “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.”
Other Goshen events will include a prayer breakfast hosted by Maple City Kiwanis at the Salvation Army building at 1013 N. Main St. from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. Reservations are required prior to the event and may be obtained by contacting Dean DeVoe at 202-6241. The cost is $2 for the breakfast.
The final event for the day will be hosted by Greene Road Church, 518 N. Greene Road, from 7 to 8 p.m. All are welcome.
Worship and prayer will focus on the local community.

Charlie Daniels Band coming to Shipshewana

In a recent telephone interview with The Goshen News, 74-year-old Charlie Daniels said he is feeling like a new man after his pacemaker procedure earlier this year. He says everything is in sync and he is having a great time on the road.
