Wakarusa Elementary students take their heart health in stride

Wakarusa Elementary School students took National Heart Month in stride — literally.

The school hosted its first Jog-A-Thon Feb. 11 to 13 with help from the Wakarusa Parent Teacher Organization.

During their regular time for physical education each day, the students did 30-minute sessions of jogging and/or walking.

IN the days leading up to the event, the students collected pledges that matched the number of laps they were able to complete in the 30 minutes.

All of the pledge funds will benefit the school. A $25 cash award was given to the boy and girl in each grade who logged themost laps and $25 to  the student who raised the most money.

Top lap-logging classes in each grade will be treated to a session of organized playtime in the gym. The top overall class will earn a movie and a snack party.

Packets with the total pledges will be turned in Friday and the prizes will be awarded after the results are tallied.
