The year is ending on a positive note for the recreational vehicle industry.
According to the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association, shipments of RVs from manufacturers to retailers in November were up 21.6 percent from the same month last year. The RVIA said 16,300 units were shipped.
Dealers seem to be buying travel trailers and fifth-wheels more often than other types of RVs. The RVIA’s November numbers show shipments of travel trailers were up 6.4 percent and fifth-wheel shipments were up 9.9 percent. Van campers, which only amounted to 100 units, were up 20 percent. All other category of RVs had shipment declines. Folding camping trailers were down 16.4 percent, type A conventional motorhomes were down 1.7 percent and type C mini-motorhomes were down 1 percent.
Historic RVIA data shows that shipments of RVs begin to climb after the holidays and peak in May.
Year-to-date, all RV shipments to retailers tracked by RVIA have reached 235,400 units for the year, up 5.1 percent over the same period last year.
