REAL Services volunteers Tim Pratt and Keith Miller will give an acoustic guitar performance of classic ’60s and ’70s pop music for residents at Courtyard Health Care Center in Goshen Feb. 21.
The program is the second in what REAL Services hopes will become an ongoing opportunity for other volunteer performers to provide social interaction for residents of nursing facilities.
The Nursing Facility Friendly Visitor program is one of the newest volunteer opportunities REAL Services offers. It has been designed to give volunteers a chance to spend time visiting with someone who might not otherwise have visitors, join in facility-run activities (like bingo), or to provide a one-time special event for all residents.
REAL Services volunteer coordinators will provide the one-on-one volunteers with brief training, and will acquaint performers with the types of entertainment the audiences enjoy.
REAL Services offers many volunteer opportunities to assist the elderly and disabled in the Michiana community. Anyone interested in learning about the volunteer opportunities may visit the website at www.realservices.org or email volunteer@realservices.org.
