GOSHEN —
Members of the Goshen Board of School Trustees Monday named Diane Woodworth as the new Goshen Community Schools Superintendent effective July 1.
Woodworth, who currently serves as deputy superintendant for GCS, will be replacing longtime GCS Superintendent Bruce Stahly, who recently announced he will be retiring as of June 30 after 13 years of service with the corporation.
“I’m very honored to have the opportunity to be the next superintendent of Goshen schools,” Woodworth said following the announcement Monday evening. “We are planning to continue the path we’re on, and I think we’re on a good path to increase student achievement with our three commitments. So I’m very honored and excited.”
Woodworth taught math at Northridge High School for 17 years, served as principal at Westview High School for three years and even spent time as a guidance counselor before beginning her seven years of service with Goshen Community Schools.
“I’ve been a teacher and a counselor and an assistant principal and a principal, and I’ve had several jobs in central office, so it kind of seems like a culmination of all the things I’ve done,” Woodworth said of her new promotion. “I feel like I have a good viewpoint from all those different roles I’ve had in education. I always like new challenges, but I love education, so I want to stay in the field.”
Even with all her experience, however, Woodworth said it will be a bit intimidating having to fill the shoes of such a successful and well respected educator and leader as Stahly.
“I will say he has been a wonderful mentor,” Woodworth said. “I have learned so much from him, and he has been just a great teacher. So hopefully that will serve me well. I could never be Dr. Stahly, but hopefully I can do some good things for this corporation.”
A graduate of Goshen College with a bachelor’s degree in math education, Woodworth received a master’s degree in guidance and counseling as well as her principal’s license from Indiana University South Bend. She also holds a doctorate degree in educational leadership from Purdue University.
Woodworth currently lives in Middlebury with her husband, Todd, a Spanish teacher and coach at Northridge High School. They have three children.
