MIDDLEBURY —
The third annual Middlebury Riverfest will feature an artistic way to conserve water. Three custom painted rain barrels will be auctioned off to promote the wise use of water, while providing beauty to a landscape, according to the town’s park department staff. The barrels will be auctioned through a silent bid auction starting on Friday. The auction will end at the conclusion of Riverfest on Aug. 18 at 2 p.m.
Rain barrels are most often connected to a downspout of a gutter system from a house or building. These barrels have all of the necessary attachments to be functional, and just need to be connected to a downspout, according to the parks staff.
The art works on the barrels have been painted by a local artist and the kids from the Middlebury Summer Fun Day Camp. ll proceeds from the auction will shared between the artist and the Middlebury Parks public programming fund.
