Family unhurt in Goshen blaze

GOSHEN —

Jennifer Carmona was away from her house Monday afternoon. Then she got a phone call.

She came home to a disaster.

Goshen firefighters were called to a fire at Carmona’s home at 817 S. Eleventh St. at 4:32 p.m. Monday after a passerby noticed the blaze.

No one was at home when the fire broke out. When firefighters arrived three minutes later, there was heavy fire damage on the first floor of the home, Battalion Chief Rick Kauffman said.

There is extensive damage to the structure and contents, according to Kauffman. One of three cats at the home died in the fire.

Carmona and her four children live in the home. She has insurance, according to the fire report.

Carmona’s father, Jerry Scott, was at the fire scene Monday comforting his daughter and grandchildren.

He said Carmona was headed to her oldest daughter’s orchestra practice when one of the neighbors called with the news that her house was on fire.

Kauffman said no obvious cause of the blaze was apparent initially, adding that Assistant Chief Jim Ramer began an investigation into the cause Monday evening.

The family was going to live with Carmona’s parents, who live in this area, firemen said.
