BRISTOL —
Elkhart County rescue crews responded to a possible double fatal traffic crash on Ind. 15 just south of C.R. 112 at 9:13 p.m. Friday night.
Ind. 15 was closed to non-emergency traffic and a Samaritan medical helicopter landed at the scene to assist with rescue efforts.
The state highway remained closed as of 11 p.m. as police continued their investigation of what witnesses suspect was a police pursuit.
Bristol and Elkhart County Police at the scene were continuing their investigation of the incident as of the News’ deadline late Friday night. Officers at the scene told a News reporter that they were instructed not to comment on the crash until an official report was prepared and would not confirm information regarding the incident.
A resident near the crash site said police told her neighbor that two people were killed.
“From what she’s heard and what police told her is there were two deceased,” said Tina Alwine, who lives on Ind. 15 about 100 feet from the crash site. “From what my neighbor heard there was a chance.”
Alwine said she did not witness the crash, but knows that stretch of Ind. 15 can be scary.
“We do see a lot of wrecks out here,” Alwine said. “We have had so many accidents out here. It is a dangerous road and it was very curvy before they fixed it. And after they fixed it, I don’t think they did a very good job.”
