Five local marching bands qualify for semi-state

CHESTERTON, Ind. — It was gold ratings all around for three local Class B and two local Class C marching bands following regional competition Saturday. Now, it’s on to semistate.

Taking home gold ratings in the Class B category Saturday were Goshen High School, Concord High School and Northridge High School. The three bands braved constant rain as they competed at Chesterton High School, each earning the chance to move on to semistate in two weeks at Pike High School in Indianapolis. A total of 20 bands will compete during the semistate event, with the top 10 spots moving on to state competition at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on Nov. 3.

Also taking home gold ratings Saturday were the Class C bands of NorthWood and Fairfield high schools. The two bands competed at Lafayette Jefferson High School in Lafayette.

Like the Class B bands, NorthWood and Fairfield have now earned the right to move on to semistate competition in two weeks at Decatur Central, where 20 of the state’s top Class C bands will compete for one of 10 available state competition spots. The Class C state competition will also take place at Lucas Oil Stadium on Nov. 3.
