GOSHEN —
Milestone Construction in Syracuse was awarded a contract for $739,820 for the city’s central garage expansion project.
Members of the Goshen Board of Public Works and Safety approved the contract Monday after receiving five bids at the Feb. 11 meeting. The central garage is used to service city-owned vehicles.
The City Council in 2012 approved the purchase of property and a former warehouse at 320 Steury Ave. for $190,000 with the intent to relocate the garage from Fifth Street to the new site. This project will renovate a two-level office and the existing warehouse and add a steel-framed metal sided building to make the facility suitable for vehicle maintenance.
Also, the Goshen Engineering Department received permission from the board to advertise for bids for the 2013 50/50 sidewalk and curb replacement program. Bids for the project will be due April 1. All necessary funds have been appropriated and are available for the project.
In other matters, the board:
• Approved a request from the city’s utility department to declare 1,202 water meters as surplus property and to sell them.
• Approved a three-year maintenance program agreement of $7,191 with Cummins Crosspoint for emergency back-up generators at the city’s police station, three fire stations and street department.
• Entered into a contract with Kiefer Consulting for $9,311 for soil sampling and analysis of farmland where the city’s biosolids from the wastewater plant area applied. The city has a land application permit from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management for the application of biosolids and is required by IDEM to conduct the testing. Kiefer Consulting will provide the farmers using the city’s wastewater sludge with the soil nutrients information that is found.
• Approved a request from Goshen Engineering for a survey by Brads-Ko Engineering and Surveying for $6,640. The work is needed for stormwater improvements on Steury Avenue.
• Approved a policy to provide public notice of meetings by publishing the notice on the city’s Internet web site.
• Approved a request by Justin Clark, an employee for the Vineyard Community Church in Syracuse, to use city sidewalks March 8 and 9 to obtain footage for a small scale video production for Easter and Good Friday.
