Organizers of Downtown Goshen Inc. have developed a First Fridays program to showcase the the many activities happening in the heart of the city.
First Fridays is a program where participating businesses and arts and entertainment venues offer special events and promotions on the first Friday evening of each month throughout the year.
Friday from 5 to 9 p.m. marks the initial First Friday event.
“First Fridays is Goshen’s monthly downtown block party,” said First Friday event coordinator, Gina Leichty. “With the variety of activities, everyone in the family should find something to enjoy. What’s even more exciting for our community is that each month there will be something new to see and do.”
Gallery openings, dancing lessons, food and wine tasting, yoga, massage, concerts, movies, shopping and dining are all part of the downtown excitement.
“It’s exciting to see downtown businesses collaborate and offer a monthly event on this scale to the public,” commented Eyedart Studio gallery owner, Ben Stutzman. “The fact that Goshen is able to host an event which you would typically see in much larger cities with a well-financed arts and culture scene is impressive. For a small town, Goshen has a lot going for it.”
In addition to the downtown business venues, Downtown Goshen Inc. and the Goshen Parks and Recreation department are hosting a Summer Performance Series which features free live music in two downtown outdoor venues.
Performances will take place Friday on the south side of the Elkhart County Courthouse lawn and also the corner of Washington and Main streets. Attendees should take a blanket or chair to enjoy the variety of live performances. Performances start at 5:30 p.m. “The Chargers” and “Drop the Dawg” kick off the outdoor performances.
More details on each venue and the summer performance series are available at gofridays.com.
Downtown Goshen Inc. is a private, not-for-profit organization which formed to ensure the ongoing growth and vibrancy of Goshen’s commercial district. Downtown Goshen Inc. operates both the downtown façade program and First Fridays.
