ELKHART, Ind. — Four new dugouts will be constructed on Concord’s new baseball diamonds.
Ancon Building Services, Goshen, was awarded the contract to construct the dugouts at a cost of $71,960.
There were four other bidders, and Ancon was the cheapest by almost $20,000.
The dugouts are part of the current facility project master plan, but were intentionally excluded from the initial project bid — the creation of the new diamonds.
Board member Randy Myers explained that board members felt the dugouts were different enough in scope from the field construction that it might be cheaper to bid it later.
Ancon will work within the timeline of the crew constructing the field, Phend & Brown, Milford, to have the field ready by baseball season, Myers said.
In other matters, Concord board members:
• Amended the capital projects fund budget to shift money around to fund construction work going on at the high school property. This is not an additional appropriation, Assistant Superintendent Larry Jackowiak pointed out.
• Approved elementary school handbooks for the 2007-08 school year.
• Approved hiring Jennifer Hale as a fifth-grade teacher at West Side Elementary School, Jason Glashauser as a music teacher at East Side Elementary School, Elise Brubacher-Kaethler as a third-grade teacher at West Side Elementary and Sara Warner as a first-grade teacher at Ox Bow Elementary School.
• Approved the resignations of Kristie Cerling as assistant principal at the high school and 40 percent of Patty Coates’s contract as a counselor at West Side Elementary School.
• Accepted a donation of $200 from Psi Iota Xi sorority to Ox Bow Elementary School. The money will be used for families who cannot afford to pay for an ear, nose and throat or audiology exam.
• Approved the Dunlap Lions Club and the Concord Township Fire Department and Auxiliary using the kitchen and cafeteria at the high school for their annual Jonah Fish Fry fund-raiser. The event will take place Aug. 11.
• Approved property and liability insurance renewal for 2007-08 with Acordia of Indiana. Concord’s total premium will be reduced from $234,370 to $215,504, and that is with the addition of several catastrophic coverages.
