Goshen Middle School teachers completed fitness testing of sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students.
The Presidential Fitness Award recognizes students with an outstanding level of fitness. Students participate in a five-item test battery, and those who score at or above the 85th percentile on all five tests receive the presidential award.
The National Fitness Award is presented to students who score at or above the national 50th percentile on all tive tests.
The tests include curl ups, which measure abdominal strength and endurance; shuttle run, which measures speed and agility; mile run, which measures cardiovascular endurance; right-angle pushups, which measure upper body strength and endurance; and sit and reach, which measures flexibility in the lower back and hamstrings.
