MILFORD, Ind. — Firefighters from four departments were called to a fire that destroyed a rural Milford house Monday afternoon.

The fire at the two-story home of Dolores Ellenbaas, 12218 N. 300 East, Milford, began with a spark in straw bales next to the home, explained Milford Fire Chief Troy Haines.

Firefighters were called at 12:50 p.m. Monday, and Milford firefighters were assisted by crews from Syracuse, Leesburg and North Webster, Chief Haines said.

There were 16 firefighers from Milford. Syracuse had 10 firefighters and four vehicles at the scene.

Firefighters used about 50,000 gallons of water and remained at the scene until 5:30 p.m.
