Fall Crafters Fair

The Shipshewana Fall Crafters Fair is a townwide event that starts at 9 a.m. Thursday and will run through Saturday.

The festival celebrates crafting and the old-fashioned culture surrounding the town.

There will be a variety of crafts available along with cloggers, music and food, plus activities for kids, all downtown.

Some other highlights include:

• Live threshing demonstrations

• A gospel sing that will feature live, free entertainment all afternoon Friday and Saturday on a stage located across from the Blue Gate Restaurant starting at about noon. And at about 7 both nights, there will be a concert in the Blue Gate Theater.

Performers will include The Providentials, The Rudds, Royal Sons and the Balos Family.

• A signing by artist Jim Shore from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at Riegsecker Marketplace. Shore is a painter, sculptor and folk artist for the company Enesco. His most popular collection is Heartwood Creek.

SHIPSHEWANA, Ind. — Artisans and free music top the list of things to do this weekend in Shipshewana as the Courtyard of Arts hosts its Fall Artisan Fair during the town-wide Crafters Fair.

Featured artisans include the Courtyard’s resident artisans: Terry Graber with folk art papier mache and hand-painted slates; Jerry Bontrager with lace-carved egg shells; Jim Rubley, who is a historic blacksmith and knife maker; Marianne Christy, with hand-made apparel and accessories; Kathy Hillebrand with jewelry and accessories; and D’vine Gallery, Garden and Gifts, with a selection of locally crafted arts.

Guest artisans for the event include Henry Detwiler of Shipshewana, with handmade wooden tops; Marlene Lehman of Shipshewana with oil painting; Margaret Bryant of Niles, Mich., with fiber arts and clothing; Cyndie Haber of Churubusco with original hand-hooked rugs; Viki Graber of Goshen with willow baskets and copper crafts; Fruitbelt Woodcarvers from Cassopolis with an assortment of carvings; Donovan Leidelmeyer of Middlebury with fork and spoon jewelry; Fred Clark of North Webster with oil painting; Justin Clark of Syracuse with photography; John Meritti of North Webster with stained glass; Olivia Williams of South Bend with hand-designed apparel; James Allen French of Niles with inspirational photography; Liz Hess of Middlebury with pottery; and Cynthia Elliot with jewelry and pottery.

Live music includes Living Faith Quartet from Middlebury, featuring Wil Beachy, Fred Schrock, Steve Overholt and David Lee Miller performing gospel songs and hymns from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday night; and Doug and Dave Unplugged from Mishawaka, performing folk classics from noon until 3 p.m. Saturday.

Fall Artisan Fair hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

The Courtyard of Arts is an artisan village along Morton Street in downtown Shipshewana.

The Courtyard of Arts offers live music, buggy rides, artisan studios, grill outs at the Garden Gate Café and special events.
