Ligonier board awards streetscape project

Selge Construction gets nod for upgrades to downtown.

LIGONIER — At Wednesday’s Ligonier Board of Public Works and Safety meeting, Selge Construction was approved as the contractor for the downtown upgrades in the city’s Streetscape Project.

In partnership with regional planning consultant group Region III-A, city officials had already contracted with Wightman-Petrie for the engineering planning of the renewal projects and with Region III-A for the administration of the grant and oversight of the projects.

The amount of the contract with Selge is $472,952, which is covered by a grant.

Once the funds are available, Mayor Patricia Fisel has been authorized by the board to give notice to proceed with the work.

The project will focus on sidewalks, lighting, trees and other ornamental elements in the area from Union Street to the north end of the downtown area along Cavin Street.

Street paving contract

The board approved the recommendation of city engineer Rick Pharis to award the contract for city paving this summer to Niblock Excavating. Niblock was the lowest, best bidder.

Niblock had entered a bid of $158,809 for the main projects and $34,130 for an optional project on Morton Street.

Because the amount of the bids was well within the budget, both bids were accepted for a combined total of $192,940. Work is planned on Lincolnway West, two sections of Martin Street, sections of Hagen and Summit, and an alley north of east Miller Street.

Street Commissioner Mike Burdette reported that the Bridge Street curbing will be completed in the next few days, and that the roadway will be poured starting Monday.

Mapping

The board approved a contract not to exceed $14,000 for updating the mapping of the central quadrant of the city water and wastewater lines.

The mapping is required as part of the city’s ongoing work to comply with federal requirements to separate sanitary and storm drains.
