Third District U.S. Rep. Marlin Stutzman of Howe has filed for re-election.
Stutzman serves on the House Budget Committee, House Agriculture Committee, and House Veteran Affairs Committee.
“I have been humbled by the opportunity to represent northeast Indiana in Congress since 2010 and look forward to continuing to stand strong for our region and Hoosier values. Voters sent me to Washington with a clear goal of shrinking government’s role in their lives, returning to a balanced budget, and reducing our nation’s debt so that the private sector can grow and once again create jobs and opportunities for Hoosier families.”
Indiana’s new U.S. House of Representatives 3rd District includes all of Adams, Allen, DeKalb, Huntington, Jay, LaGrange, Noble, Steuben, Wells, and Whitley counties, as well as portions of Blackford and Kosciusko counties.
LaGrange County Clerk
Life-long LaGrange County resident Suellyn Mickem announced she will run for election to the county office position she previously held for eight years.
Mickem is seeking the Democratic nomination for clerk of the LaGrange Circuit Court, a position she left at the end of 2000 due to term limitations.
Mickem is currently employed as a legal assistant for a local attorney, and has past experience as a loan processing clerk and bookkeeper. She has completed accounting and computer courses through Ivy Tech College, studied retail banking and is a graduate of the Association of Indiana Counties’ leadership program. Mickem is a past president of the Northern District Clerk’s Association.
She has twenty-five years of experience in working with the election process, including the past 10 years as the election day technical support for Fulton County. Mickem was instrumental during her tenure as clerk in acquiring the optical scan voting system used in LaGrange County.
Mickem, 55, of LaGrange, is the daughter of the late Walter and Mildred (Hart) Gitt. She is the mother of two sons, who are both decorated veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. SFC David Mickem, his wife Mandy, and their four children, are currently stationed in Hawaii. Jon Mickem, his wife Jennifer, and their two young sons live in Bryant.
“Government seems to be a bad word lately, but I believe public service, not politics, is important,” Mickem stated in a press release. “I am confident I can assure the accountability and integrity needed to properly administer the Clerk’s responsibilities and I look forward to the opportunity to return to public office.”
Information on Mickem and her campaign can be found on Facebook.com page at “Elect Suellyn Mickem Clerk.”
