The recreational vehicle industry had a pretty good year in 2011, according to statistics released Thursday by the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association.
According to the RVIA, wholesale shipments for the year were 252,300 units, a 4.1 percent increase over 2010’s total.
More towable RVs were shipped in 2011 while slightly fewer motorhomes were shipped. Towable RVs climbed to 227,500 units in 2011, up 4.8 percent compared to 2010. During the same period, according to the RVIA, motorhome shipments were 24,800 units for 2011, down 1.6 percent from 2010.
December totals
For December, wholesale shipments of all RVs were reported at 16,900 units in December, 3.6 percent more than November’s total but 7.7 percent less than December 2010. Shipments of both towable and motorhome categories were less in December compared to one year ago with only travel trailers increasing over December 2010.

Travel trailers 10,600; fifth-wheels 4,000; folding camping trailers, 600; truck campers, 200; Type A motorhomes, 900; van campers, 100; and Type C (mini) motorhomes, 500.
