Two car crashes take lives

A crash on Mishawaka Road in Concord Township and another mishap in northern Michigan have claimed two lives.

A crash early Sunday morning in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula killed a Goshen man.

According to Michigan State Police, Eric D. Johnson, 37, was killed in a rollover crash in Portage Township, Mackinac County, at 1:43 a.m. on H-33, north of Curtis.

Johnson was thrown from the van he was driving after it struck a utility pole. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two passengers in the van, Joanne Johnson and Craig Woolsey, of Goshen, were taken to Helen Newberry Joy Hospital in Newberry with serious injuries.

Police said they believe alcohol was a factor in the crash. The crash is under investigation by Michigan state police at the Newberry police post.

Concord crash



A Michigan woman died after a one-car crash at C.R.s 20 and 9 at 9:52 p.m. Monday.

According to a report by the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, Sylvia Fetter, 66, Edwardsburg, Mich., was driving a 1997 Lincoln west on C.R. 20, west of C.R. 9, when the car went off the south side of the road and struck a tree.

The driver complained of trouble breathing and hip pain and was taken to Elkhart General Hospital by Concord Township ambulance. The sheriff’s report said the woman died of complications from her injuries at the hospital. The death is under investigation.

Damage was listed as heavy to the front end of the car.
