An erroneous change order for Goshen’s fall tree planting brought the project back before the Board of Public Works and Safety at their meeting Monday afternoon.
At the board’s last meeting, members approved a change order reducing the total cost for trees from Stanger Trees, Goshen, by $1,691. The order, however, gave the wrong number of the wrong trees, changing the cost by the wrong amount. Monday, the board was presented with a corrected change order and a request to void the original order, which was approved.
The corrected order lowers the cost by $1,352.
A change order for Seventh Street sidewalk improvements was also approved. The order reflects additional concrete removal and installation, tree removal and other items that increased the project’s cost by $5,733.60, an approximately 11 percent jump.
In other business
• The intersection of Cottage Avenue, Crescent Street and Bridge Street will soon be a three-way stop. The board voted to approve the installation of stop signs on Cottage Avenue and Crescent Street, where Bridge Street already had one, following a recommendation from the Mayor’s Traffic Commission.
• Niblock Excavating, Bristol, was awarded a paving project and a sidewalk improvement project. For submitting the lowest bid on paving of $379,217, the company will pave Bashor Road from Reliance Road to C.R. 17 and Eighth Street from College Avenue to Madison Street/U.S. 33. For submitting the lowest bid on sidewalk improvements of $209,790, the company will construct and/or improve sidewalks along the south side of New York Street from the railroad to 12th Street and along the west side of 11th Street from College Avenue to Plymouth Avenue.
• The board approved an agreement with Elkhart Township for contributions to support school resource officers in Goshen Community Schools. The township has agreed to donate $1,000, the same amount it previously contributed to the Drug Abuse Resistance Education program in Goshen.
