Topeka deputy marshall arrested

TOPEKA, Ind — As of Wednesday night, Topeka Deputy Marshall Zachary P. Miller still had an active voice mail prompt with the department. It doesn’t look like he’ll be checking his messages any time soon.

A statement issued by the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department Wednesday afternoon said that Miller, 28, was arrested earlier in the day on preliminary charges of three counts of official misconduct, Class D felonies, and one count of conspiracy to deal in methamphetamine, a Class A felony. Miller, who resides in Topeka, was lodged at the LaGrange County jail and held without bond. According to LaGrange County police he is expected to appear for an initial hearing in a local court today.

The arrest follows a two-month investigation by the sheriff’s drug task force which worked in both Noble and LaGrange counties.

The case remains under investigation.

When reached at her home Wednesday night, Town Council President Yvonne Eash said the case is a county police matter and referred questions to the sheriff or prosecuting attorney.

Town Marshal Carl Stoltz was out of town Wednesday and unavailable for comment.
