The fifth annual madrigal dinner begins this weekend with six show times: Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. with a matinee Sunday at 2 p.m. and Dec. 11-12 at 7 p.m. Doors will open a half hour before each dinner and performance.
During the meal, which is hosted by Quaker Haven Camp near Dewart Lake at 111 EMS D16C Lane, Syracuse, actors and actresses will wander through the room as jesters, mummers and musicians. Games, dancing, a jousting tournament and caroling will be included as the evening models Christmas in England in the days of King Arthur.
Performers will be from the Lakes Area Players, including main characters, Lord William played by Victor Buhlmann, Lady Elizabeth played by Elaine Pearson and the jester being played by Curtis Shoemaker.
Tickets are $20 per person, which includes dinner and entertainment. Reservations must be made before the performances and can be done by calling Quaker Haven Camp at 834-4193.
Three bazaars
One of the biggest annual craft bazaars in this area is the annual Wawasee Middle School Bazaar. It will take place at the school, located at Ind. 13 and C.R. 1000 North Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. More than 100 vendors will offer homemade crafts, including jewelry, pottery, quilts, knitted items, sewn items and many other handmade items.
Overflow parking will be at the Shepherd by the Lakes Church across Ind. 13 from the school and the former Church of the Nazarene, across from the school along C.R. 2000 North. Shuttles will run from the churches to the school and entry is free. Coffee and doughnuts will be available in the morning and lunch will also be offered.
The Vineyard Church, just north of the middle school along Ind. 13, will offer a jewelry and bake sale from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Proceeds will go to Destiny Rescue, a grass roots, internationally recognized Christian organization that serves the poor and exploited.
For example, they raise funds to feed hungry people all over the world, bring education to areas without that opportunity and rescue children from the abuse of sexual trade.
The jewelry offered for sale at Vineyard’s bazaar is all handmade by girls who have been rescued from human trafficking.
The third bazaar is a long-time annual event held the same day as the middle school bazaar at the old Darr School House, just down the road from the Middle School on East 1000 North and the corner of Syracuse/Webster Road. They will be open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
