NEW PARIS, Ind — The third annual “Christmas at the Park” event will take place at Sunnyside Park tonight from 6 to 8. This free family-centered event will include a live Nativity, a story corner, a station to make greeting cards for our troops, crafts, snacks and face painting. A visit with Santa will include a free digital photo and a treat.
The entire evening is free to the community and is sponsored by New Paris Church of the Brethren.
Upward program
Evaluations and late registration for Upward basketball and cheerleading will take place Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Benton Elementary School gym. Forms are available in the elementary school offices. The first practice is Jan. 11 and the first game will take place Jan. 30.
School news
Christmas vacation for the Fairfield school system starts Dec. 19 and continues through Jan. 3.
Benton Elementary: The sixth-grade boys basketball team will host Millersburg today at 4 p.m.
When school is delayed for two hours, no breakfast is served in the cafeteria.
New Paris Elementary: Second-grade students will travel to South Bend Friday to see the “Nutcracker” ballet.
The Mobile Dentists Smile Program, a free dental clinic is coming to the school Jan. 20. A letter and permission slip has been sent home with students and should be returned to the school by Dec. 16.
Church news
Maple Grove Church: “You Can’t Cancel Christmas” is the children’s Christmas program Sunday at the church at 6 p.m.
First Brethren Church: The Good Neighbor Food Ministry will serve the community from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 19. People who are unemployed may visit the church at the corner of Third and Clinton Streets for assistance.
A Christmas Eve candlelight service will take place at the church at 9.
New Paris Church of the Brethren: Youth from the church will offer free baby-sitting Dec. 18 from 5 to 9 p.m. There is no Sunday school Dec. 20, however a Christmasservice will start at 6 p.m.
