LIGONIER NEWS: Santa to visit fire station Saturday

LIGONIER, Ind — Special holiday activities will begin with a pancake and sausage breakfast from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Ligonier fire station. Breakfast is free, donations will be accepted. At 9, Santa is due to arrive at the fire station, with gift bags for the children who visit.

A reindeer is scheduled to visit the library grounds during the morning, and Christmas carollers will sing in the downtown area during the day. A sleigh leaving from Gazebo Park will offer rides between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., at a cost of $3 for adults and $1 for kids. Proceeds will benefit the Ligonier Visitors Center.

The Chamber of Commerce window decorating contest will be judged Saturday, with prizes for the best decorations. Many local businesses have offered up their storefronts and windows to be decorated in the Christmas spirit. To top off the day, the Ligonier Historical Society is hosting a special Christmas display Saturday at the city’s historical museum on Main Street.  Also this year, a residential Christmas decorating contest is being hosted by the Chamber of Commerce. Atz Furniture is donating a recliner as first prize for the winner of the house decorating contest.

The West End Café in The CrossWalk at Ligonier United Methodist, 466 Townline Road, offers free meals to community members from 10:30 a.m. to noon each Friday.

The Community Harvest Food Truck is also hosted by the Ligonier Methodist Church on Fridays. Volunteers and food or cash donations are welcomed by each of these local ministries.

Local residents are also invited to support — and benefit from — The Caring Closet, a clothing pantry located at Stones Hill Community Church, two miles south of Ligonier on Ind. 5, across from the West Noble school campus. The closet collects good used clothing and a few household items, and is open Monday afternoons from 4 to 6 p.m., except for holiday weekends. Questions can be addressed to Stones Hill Community Church by calling 894-9171 and leaving a message. For those wishing to donate to this ministry, donated clothing must have no stains, missing buttons, or broken zippers, and must be clean.
