LaGrange County youth present play about teen dating violence

Nine students from LaGrange County’s three public schools are performing “The Outrage,” a drama about teen dating violence, before middle and high school students over the next several weeks. An estimated 2,000 LaGrange County youth will view this award-winning drama.

On March 14, the drama will be performed in a free event at The Blue Gate Theater in Shipshewana beginning at 7 p.m. County agencies providing services for area youth also will be on hand to explain their services.

Sheli Emenheiser, a survivor advocate for Elijah Haven Crisis Intervention Center, will share her story of recovery from domestic violence and the work she does for Elijah Haven.

“The Outrage” features MacKenna McGraw and Lizzie Kratz from Prairie Heights High School; Zack Tolle and Adam Eaton, Lakeland High School; and Kiersten Reeve, Erika Byler, Samantha Anderson and Drew Sumwalt, Westview High School. The drama is directed by Ingrid Lochamire.

This is the second year Elijah Haven Crisis Intervention Center has made the drama available to public schools. This year, Westview Junior High and The Howe School have been added to the performance schedule. Earlier this year, Lochamire brought classroom discussion about “Safe Dates” to health classes at all four county high schools and Westview Junior High School.

“Safe Dates” and “The Outrage” are funded by grants from LaGrange County REMC’s Operation Round-Up and LIFE of the LaGrange County Community Foundation.
