WAKARUSA —
More than 255 families have consolidated their children’s clothing, toys, bedding, books, videos, games and accessories for the largest Wakarusa Children’s Resale event to date.
The fall and winter resale event is planned for Aug. 28 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Wakarusa Missionary Church, 202 W. Waterford St., Wakarusa. For more information, call 862-2102 or visit www.freewebs.com/wakarusaresale.
The Resale draws local families shopping for like-new items for children of all ages. In addition to baby and older children’s necessities, the children’s resale also offers a number of items for expectant mothers. Many local sellers use the 90 percent that they receive to supplement their tight budgets.
“Our resale provides for young families great, gently used items at unbeatable prices,” said co-coordinator Sarah Freitas. “So many local families use the resale to start their back to school shopping and begin Christmas shopping knowing that they will get some great bargains and stretch their tight budgets.”
On Aug. 28, morning early birds will be rewarded with some gift certificate drawings.
Reason Enough to Act, Elkhart, Family Christian Development Center, Nappanee, and Lifegate (Shipshewana Missionary Church clothing pantry) have all received donated items and cash following each sale, along with individual families in need.
The Resale allocates 5 percent of all proceeds to local organizations. Thousands of dollars have been contributed to the community via cash to sellers, vouchers to the needy community and cash and items to local charities, according to Freitas. More than $2,500 has been set aside for gift certificates for families in need just this sale alone.
Due to the organization and leadership of this sale, “Sister” sales have started up in Bourbon, Angola, Mishawaka and Pierceton.
