New hours of operation at the library begin Tuesday. The hours are: Monday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday 1 to 8 p.m., Wednesday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday 1 to 5 p.m.
Storytime Express
Sessions are set for Wednesday and Thursday at 10:30 a.m. and will feature the first of a series on life skills. Stories about responsibility, fingerplays or songs and a craft activity are also offered. This program is free, and is recommended for children ages 2 to 5.
‘Read That!’
The 2012-13 season of the “Read That!” book discussion group for teens begins Sept. 13 at 6:30 p.m.
Participants will read the realistic teen fiction novel “The Running Dream.” The book focuses on a character named Jessica who loses her leg in an accident. Forced to evaluate both her past and her future, she questions what it means to have a disability and whether it changes her identity.
The group is open to middle school and high school teens. The first five registrants get a free copy of the book to read and keep. To sign up, call the library at 533-9531.
Book clubs
Sign-ups begin this week for the library’s second-grad book club and the Girls Only and Boys Only book clubs, for third-, fourth- and fifth-graders. Sign up at the Children’s Reference Desk. For more information, call 537-0241.

Preschool Storytime
Preschool Storytimes on Monday at 10:30 a.m. and Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. resume Sept. 17. Registration will begin on Tuesday. This year’s theme is “Fall Into a World of Books”. All children ages 3 to 5 are welcome.

“The Good Wife Strikes Back” by Elizabeth Buchan is the selection for the September Book Club, which will meet Sept. 12 at noon.

‘Crafting Hope’
Participants in the library’s Crafting Hope program meet bi-monthly to sew simple projects for local and global organizations. Over the past year, the group has donated hundreds of pillowcase dresses, shorts, toys, bibs, blankets and more to people locally and around the world.
Crafting Hope will meet again Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. to make skirts for girls and women in need.

‘Knee High Nappanee’
What does the world look like when you’re 3 feet tall? Find out at the second-annual Knee High Nappanee children’s photography exhibit at the Nappanee Public Library Oct. 4 to 31.
This year’s assignment is to capture the Apple Festival in downtown Nappanee. Children age five to twelve can participate by attending a photography workshop at the library Sept. 13 from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. Participants will hear tips on taking pictures, and one free disposable camera will be given out per child.
Children must return used cameras to the library by Monday, Sept. 17, at 5 p.m. to have their photographs included in the exhibit.

‘Artful Quilters’
The next meeting of “The Artful Quilters” guild is Sept. 13 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Membership in the guild is open to anyone. Yearly dues are $15 and are used for the benefit of the guild. Those interested can attend two meetings to get acquainted before becoming members.

After-school program
“A Friend is a Friend is a Friend” is the theme for the After-School Special set for Sept. 11 at 3:30 p.m. Participants will read, play games and have a treat. Students in kindergarten through fifth grade are invited. Registration is required.
Board meeting
The Wakarusa Library Board of Trustees will meet Sept. 14 at 7:45 a.m. in the library meeting room. A public hearing on the proposed 2013 budget will be held.

Library cards
During the month of September, everyone who signs up for a new library card will get their picture taken with their new card.
Library staffers will use the photos to make a customized “READ” poster that will be displayed all month in the library. Also, anyone getting a card in September will have their name entered in a drawing for a $25 gift certificate to a local restaurant of their choice.
Nutrition program
Joan Younce from the Kosciusko County Extension office will present the next nutrition program, “Farmer’s Market Meals,” Sept. 10 at 6:30 p.m. A sign-up sheet will be available beginning Tuesday at the adult circulation desk.
Preschool Story Time

Planners like changes to CVS parking lot
Access to the CVS at 410 S. Main St. in Goshen could soon be easier for those with disabilities following a ruling by the Goshen Plan Commission Tuesday afternoon.
During their meeting Tuesday, Goshen Plan Commission members gave their blessing to a request by CVS Pharmacy and State Permits Inc. for a major change to the CVS Planned Unit Development that seeks to reconfigure the north portion of the parking lot to increase the overall Americans with Disabilities Act accessibility of the site. The final site plan for the PUD was also approved by the commission Tuesday, and the request will now be forwarded on to the Goshen City Council with a favorable recommendation. -
Council won’t fund school sidewalks
GOSHEN — Goshen City Council members voted along party lines Tuesday to defeat a proposal by Goshen Community Schools for a 50-50 cost split between the city and the school corporation to pay for a $125,000 sidewalk expansion project.
