The Nappanee library’s Lego Club will meet at the facility Feb. 21. All materials will be provided.

Children age 5 and older are invited to participate in the club on the third Thursday of every month from 6:30 to 8 p.m. No registration is required, and parents are invited to stay and participate. Children younger than 8 must be accompanied by an adult.

Science Club

The library’s Super Science Saturday Club will explore topics related to medical science at its next meeting Feb. 23.

Children will meet at the library at 10 a.m. to experience the “x-ray effect,” create a homemade stethescope and “see” their pulse points.

Crafty Bandits

The Crafty Bandits will meet Feb. 25 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.  This month, the group will carve rubber stamps.

This program is free of charge and is open to all young people in grades six through 12. For more information or to register, contact the library circulation desk at 533-9531.

Movie screening

A movie will be shown today at 2 p.m. in the auditorium.  

The live-action film follows the adventures of an 11-year-old boy, Johnny Clem. Johnny is a runaway who becomes a drummer for the Union Army during the Civil War.  The movie is 90 minutes long. Snacks and a drink will be served. For more information, contact Audio Visual Services staff at 534-6650.

Storytime Express

Storytime Express sessions are set for Wednesday and Thursday at 10:30 a.m. “Reading Rainbow” stories will be featured. Fingerplays, songs and a craft activity are also planned. This program is free and is recommended for ages children ages 2 to 5.

F.R.O.S.T

“F.R.O.S.T.” — the Fun Reading Over Snow Term children’s winter reading program — runs through Friday.

Participants are invited to the library to pick up a record sheet. On their own, children will record and track their reading progress when they read a book, or when someone reads a book to them.

When a participant has finished reading 10 picture books, or five chapter books, they can come to the library to receive a free prize. They can ski the library’s “mountain slope” successfully and get a chance to win a grand prize. If they read a book from the library’s Winter Reading Selected List, participants get an extra chance for the grand prize.  

This program is open to children through fifth grade. Parents of children younger than age 7 must accompany their child while participating in the ski game.

Tax assistance

Volunteers will be on hand again this year to prepare taxes for low-income and senior citizens. Appointments are available on Friday mornings and early afternoons beginning now through March 28. Call the library’s circulation desk at 533-9531 to schedule an appointment.

Boys & Girls Book Club

Third- through fifth-grade boys meet every Tuesday and girls every Thursday (both at 4 p.m.) through mid-April. Visit or call the Children’s Desk at 537-0241 to register.

‘Yak, Snack and Read’

“Yak, Snack and Read” book discussion sessions are set for Tuesday. At 1 p.m., the public is invited to “yak” about “How To Make An American Quilt” by Whitney Otto. The 7 p.m. gathering will feature “Crow Lake” by Mary Lawson. Participants can stop by the front desk to pick up a book for either session.

Preschool Storytime

Registration is under way for Spring Storytime.  Spring Storytime meets Mondays at 10:30 a.m. and Tuesdays at 12:30 p.m. Children ages 3 to 5 are invited to participate.  They will listen to stories, hear music and make a craft to take home. Call 848-7458 to register a child.

Boys and Girls Book Clubs

Boys and Girls Book Clubs members will start out reading “How to Eat Fried Worms” by Thomas Rockwell. The boys meet every Tuesday from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. for seven weeks, through March 19.  The girls will meet every Wednesday from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. through March 20. Winter Preschool Story Time

Miss Julie and Miss Tina’s theme this week is “Eskimos.”  Stories about the Inuit people and life in the Artic will be featured. Children will “transform” their photo into an Eskimo at craft time and share a treat. Preschool Story time is on Wednesdays at 10:15 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. and Thursdays at 7 p.m. All children ages 3 to 6 are invited to attend.

Movie to be shown

A newly released movie will be shown this month at the library. The movie is a black-and-white, stop-motion animated movie about a very smart boy named Victor and his love for his pet dog, Sparky.

The showing is set for Feb. 25 (Wawasee students are off school this day) at 10:30 a.m. or 2 p.m. Snacks will be provided.

Knitting Club

The afternoon knitting club will meet Friday at at 1:30 p.m. in the library meeting room. Attendees should bring yarn and knitting needles.  

Nutrition program

Joan Younce from the Kosciusko County Purdue Extension offic will be hosting a nutrition program on “5 Ingredients or Less” Feb. 25 at 6:30 p.m. in the library meeting room.  There will be samples and recipes available for all participants. Sign up at the adult desk.  

Cookbook available

The Milford Community Cookbook is now available to purchase at the library. This is a fundraiser for the Friends of the Milford Public Library. Cookbooks cost $15 each with all proceeds going to the library. The cookbook includes more than 200 pages filled with more than 450 recipes.

Story Hour

“Going to Grandmother’s house” will be the theme for Story Hour Feb. 25 and 26 at 10:15 a.m. at the library. Children must already be registered to attend.

Toddler Time

A winter wreath will be created during Toddler Time Feb. 27 at 10 a.m. Children ages 25 to 36 months are invited to participate. They must be registered to attend.

Reading program

“Feed Your Mind —READ!” is the adult and high school winter reading program theme. Participants are asked to read six books in nine weeks through April 13 and keep a reading log. Completed logs that are returned to the Wakarusa library will be placed in a grand prize drawing for one of three prizes.
