LEESBURG —
A man armed with a knife robbed a Leesburg store Friday afternoon.
Shortly before 1:30 p.m., Kosciusko County police received a 911 call from a clerk at the Leesburg Freedom Express gas station, 201 N. Main St. The clerk said she had just been robbed at knife-point.
The clerk and other witnesses described the robber as a white male in his mid-20s with short, blonde hair that was spiked on top. He has a thin build and weighs approximately 120 to 130 pounds. Witness said the robber is about 5 feet 6 to 5 feet 8 inches tall. He had partial facial growth/stubble at the time of the robbery and wore a black T-shirt with blue jeans.
Police said the vehicle involved was described as a tan-colored mini-van, possibly a GM or Chevrolet product, that left the scene heading north.
Witnesses told police the front-seat passenger in the getaway vehicle was a white female with short, brown curly hair, possibly a perm. There were also two children in the vehicle, one of whom was described as a 4- to 6-year-old girl with blonde hair.
Witnesses told police the robber had first filled his vehicle with gas and entered the store. Inside, he reportedly made comments that his wife had been at a doctor’s appointment the previous day due to her pregnancy.
Police said that as the man approached the store clerk, he brandished a black-handled knife and demanded cash. He then took the money and fled in the van.
Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call police at 574-267-5667 or 574-372-2494.
