MIDDLEBURY — Northridge High School hosted the 2013 Science Olympiad Saturday.
Some members of the 27 high school teams and 23 middle school teams spent the day testing out their knowledge of science through gravity vehicles, robot arms, boomilevers, gliders, helicopters, mouse trap cars, magnetic levitation, egg drop and home-made instruments. Others were tested on their know-how in anatomy, astronomy, forensics, heredity, metrics, food science, chemistry lab and other academic topics.
The Northridge High School Green team took second and the NHS Gold team placed 16th. The two Northridge middle school teams placed 14th and 20th.
“We are very pleased with the NMS results considering the team is very young,” said NHS Science Olympiad Assistant Coach Laura Simons.
The top seven places for the high school division were Munster, Northridge, Whiting, Portage Central, John Adams, Carmel and Riley.
The top seven middle school teams were Grandville, Stanley Clark, Wilber Wright, Mississinewa, Chesterton, Manchester and Hudson.

Charlie Daniels Band coming to Shipshewana
He’s got the hat, the fiddle and the hits. And he’s feeling revitalized.
In a recent telephone interview with The Goshen News, 74-year-old Charlie Daniels said he is feeling like a new man after his pacemaker procedure earlier this year. He says everything is in sync and he is having a great time on the road.
