INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana legislators were busy Thursday working on several bills.
• Indiana’s microbreweries would be allowed to sell beer for takeout on Sundays under a bill approved by the state House.
The bill won House approval 75-20 and returns to the Senate for consideration of changes the House made.
The bill would limit the amount of Sunday carryout sales from microbreweries to about two cases per transaction. The 32 microbreweries across the state have limits on how much beer they can make each year.
The bill also would repeal a law that prohibits alcohol sales during voting hours on election days.
• The Indiana House has passed a bill that would require deadbeat parents who hit big slot machine jackpots at casinos to give up the cash to their children.
The bill approved unanimously Thursday would withhold gambling winnings from parents who are behind on their child support payments. Supporters say it makes sense in a state where just 58 percent of child support payments are collected.
More than 165,000 noncustodial parents each owe more $2,000 for back child support in more than $2 billion of delinquencies.
The withholdings would generally kick in on slot machine winnings of $1,200 or more.
The bill must return to the Senate for consideration of changes the House made.
• The Indiana House has given final legislative approval to a bill stopping homeowners’ associations from banning political signs in members’ yards and windows near elections.
The House voted unanimously for the bill Thursday. It now goes to Gov. Mitch Daniels for his consideration.
Some homeowners associations say the restrictions are often imposed to make sure an area looks nice. But supporters of the bill say it protects property rights and political free speech.
