GOSHEN —
Northridge was steady and notched a pair of Northern Lakes Conference golf wins Tuesday at Maplecrest Country Club.
The Raiders finished with a 161 team score while the Wawasee Warriors posted a 166 and the Goshen Redskins 168.
Wawasee junior Luke Jackson was the only player to break 40 on a blustery late afternoon as he posted a 37.
Northridge got a trio of 40s — from Will Erekson, Andrew Edlund and senior Rhett Holaway — and a 41 from senior Logan McBride. Tom Morrison fired a 45.
“That’s a good score from Andrew Edlund, our No. 5 player,” said Northridge coach Dennis Sienicki. “Our short games weren’t sharp and we would like to have played a little better, but it wasn’t bad overall. We’re happy with the two wins.”
Following Jackson for Wawasee were junior Dylan Cousins with a 41, freshman Tristan Atwood 43, senior Derek Zurcher 45 and freshman Mason Germanprez 48.
Warrior coach Steve Coverstone said, “Luke Jackson had a 37 with a couple three-putts. He hadn’t been playing that much, but hit it good the whole way around. We don’t like to settle for a split, but the guys played well overall.”
Sophomore Alex Hartsough led Goshen with a 40 while senior Kenneth Shields posted a 41, senior Austin Shaffer 43, Michael Chupp and senior Paul Johnson both 44.
GHS coach Brent Randall said, “These are a couple tough losses because you always want to defend your home course. We’re happy with Alex Hartsough’s 40 and that was with a double bogey on No. 8.
“From what I observed, it seemed like we didn’t putt very well as a team. We aren’t very experienced and right now it seems like we take two steps forward and one back. That 168 isn’t bad, but it obviously wasn’t good enough to win.”
Northridge is now 7-1 overall and 2-0 in the NLC, Wawasee 8-4 and 1-1, Goshen 7-5 and 0-2.
The Redskins meet Concord and Memorial today at Christiana Creek. Northridge and Plymouth meet NorthWood at McCormick Creek on Thursday while Wawasee visits Warsaw that day.
