GHS senior Natalie Newell will pitch at Bethel

GOSHEN —  The most prolific pitcher in Goshen High School softball history has made an important decision less than a month into her senior year.

Natalie Newell has decided to continue her academic and athletic careers at Bethel College in Mishawaka. She will be signing a letter of intent at GHS on Monday, Sept. 20.

According to a release from the GHS athletic office, Newell is receiving a substantial athletic scholarship to attend Bethel.

The Lady Redskins, coached by Scott Hutcherson, posted a 26-5 overall record this past season and shared the Northern Lakes Conference championship with Elkhart Memorial.

Newell, a right-hander, posted a 19-4 record this past spring with a 0.61 earned run average. She struck out 309 and walked only 29 in a fraction over 150 innings.

Playing third base when not in the pitching circle, Newell is also an accomplished hitter. She batted .474 for the Lady Redskins with 42 runs scored, 15 doubles, seven home runs and 30 runs batted in.

Indiana is now the only state in the union that prohibits carry-out alcohol sales on Sunday. What do you think about Indiana’s current law?

It’s time to make the sale of carry-out alcohol legal on Sundays.
The state should continue to prohibit Sunday carry-out alcohol sales.
I really don’t care one way or the other.
