GOSHEN —
GOSHEN — Add Forrest Glogouski’s name to a growing list of individual accomplishments by Fairfield High School athletes.
Glogouski, a 113-pound sophomore, captured a regional wrestling championship Saturday at the Goshen High School gym.
The diminutive Falcon edged DeKalb senior Matt Frane, 3-2, in the title match. Glogouski improved his record to 36-1 and handed Frane his first loss after 37 wins.
Glogouski earlier pinned Central Noble freshman Jacob Pillnock in 52 seconds and took an 11-0 decision from East Noble sophomore Sterling Lutter.
Glogouski and the top four finishers in all weight classes advance to an individual semistate next Saturday at the Allen County Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne.
“It just takes a lot of hard work and you must get better every week once the tournament starts,” said the soft-spoken Glogouski.
“I had never wrestled Matt before because he’s two years older. I just tried to push the pace and be physical. It feels great to be going to semistate.”
Goshen seniors Ryan Ntende (152) and Brandon Daniels (heavyweight) are regional runnersup and going to semistate along with classmate Austin Maynard who was fourth at 126.
“My goal this season was to get second or better in the regional,” said Daniels. “So, I have to be pleased about that but I’m not happy about the way I wrestled today.
“My opponent was ready for me and got after it. I got third at regional the last two years, so this is a step up.”
Concord sophomore DeLawrence Gayfield was second and Westview junior Brian Mullet fourth at 106 pounds; Northridge junior Devin Puckett fourth at 120; West Noble senior A.J. Grim fourth at 132; Northridge senior Jake Kenny third and Fairfield senior Dillon Hinen fourth at 138; NorthWood senior Zac Wilson fourth at 145; West Noble junior Zach Goodyear second and NorthWood senior A.J. Carter third at 195.
Elkhart Memorial qualified 10 individuals for the semistate, East Noble eight, Jimtown seven, DeKalb six, Elkhart Central five, Goshen and Angola both three, Prairie Heights, Fairfield, Northridge, West Noble and NorthWood two each, Concord, Westview, Fremont and Howe School one each.
Among Jimtown winners was junior Tanner Adams at 170 pounds, the only wrestler to emerge from the regional still undefeated on the season. He takes a 43-0 record to Fort Wayne.
NorthWood’s Wilson scored a big upset early in the day when he edged West Noble senior Kevin Marsh, 3-2. Marsh was 34-1 going into the regional.
