Goshen boys, girls finish top 3

WARSAW — It was a good night in Goshen High School track and field as the girls finished second and the boys third in the annual Northern Lakes Conference meet Tuesday at Warsaw.

The Warsaw girls won the NLC title for the seventh consecutive year with a total of 180 points. Goshen was second at 107, followed by Northridge 104, Elkhart Memorial 96 1/2, Concord 75 1/2. Plymouth 65, NorthWood 56 and Wawasee 47.

Warsaw took the boys title with 176 points, followed by Memorial 113, Goshen 101, Northridge 95, Concord 68, NorthWood 66, Wawasee 61 and Plymouth 31.

“Second is what we thought we could do,” Goshen girls coach Dallan Troyer said.

Liana Yoder had a great night for the Redskins winning the 100-meter hurdles (15.37) and 300 hurdles (45.40). Her time in the 300s was a meet record.

“Liana had a great night,” Troyer said.

Yoder was in second place approaching the finish line in the 300s before surging ahead.

“The 300s were tough,” she said. “The only thing I could think of was getting quicker, which is what coach Troyer tells us every day in practice. I’ didn’t really feel loose until the 200 trials after that I felt fine.”

Goshen boys coach Brock Maust said. “This is the beat year I’ve had since I have been at Goshen. It all comes to down to seniors and the mark they are leaving for the kids that will be coming along in the future.”

Reade Carboneau won the high jump for the Redskins with a leap of 6-4. He did not miss in the event until he got to 6-5.

“It feels good being an NLC champion,” he said. “We have been working on the arch at the top of my jump and it finally clicked. I have jumped 6-4 one other time this season.”
