Newell’s pitching, Flory’s homer lift Goshen to win at Memorial
The Goshen Lady Redskins notched a Northern Lakes Conference upset Monday, 3-0, at Elkhart Memorial.
Sophomore Natalie Newell was again a pitching star for Goshen with 16 strikeouts during her shutout performance.
Katelynn Flory had a home run and two RBI for the Lady Redskins, Madison Hussey a double, Newell and Britta Abney singles. All three runs were scored in the first inning.
Goshen, 14-6 overall and 6-4 in the NLC, hosts Plymouth at Shanklin Park on Wednesday.
Memorial won the junior varsity game, 11-1.
Heather Gladfelter tripled for GHS and Yesenia Montanez singled.
Bethany loses by two to CN Cougars
Bethany dropped a 7-5 decision Monday at Central Noble.
Chelsea Noble had a two-run single for the Bruins while All Hochstetler, Jodi Stutzman and Gina Gautsche also hit safely.
Bethany visits NorthWood today.
Gabi Routson hurls dandy for Wawasee
Gabi Routson pitched a three-hitter and struck out 13 Monday as Wawasee was a 4-0 Northern Lakes Conference winner at NorthWood.
Taylor Goshert had two hits for the Warriors, Jonna Wiggs and Ashley Sharp drove in runs. Emily Priest, Lindsey Biller and Allison Schrock had hits for NorthWood.
Wawasee, 10-9 overall and 5-5 in the NLC, hosts Northridge on Wednesday. NorthWood, 5-15 and 0-10, hosts Bethany Christian today.
NorthWood won the JV game, 16-15, as Kelsa Hernley had four hits, Chloe Anglemyer three and Morgan Boyer a home run. Ashley Flores had three hits, Taylor Garrison, Ashley Lyon, Katrina Simbeck and Arielle Gardner two each for Wawasee.
Warsaw breezes to victory over Pilgrims
Warsaw socked Plymouth, 9-2, in Northern Lakes Conference action Monday.
Kaitlin Gruenewald was the winning pitcher. Kelci Freds had two hits, Paige Wood three RBI and Amber Plummer two RBI for the Tigers.
