Beer, Stichter star as Wawasee scores 101
Senior Keegan Beer tallied a career-high 33 points and junior Riley Stichter a career-best 22 as the Wawasee Warriors were 101-48 winners over Angola Saturday at Syracuse.
Beer’s previous high was 16 last season against Warsaw and Elkhart Memorial. Stichter’s previous best was 20 a year ago in a game with Churubusco.
Freshman Jake Thompson tossed in 19 points in his first varsity contest.
Wawasee (1-0) travels to West Noble next Saturday.
West Noble goes OT to nip Bethany Bruins
West Noble outscored Bethany Christian 8-2 in overtime and the Chargers posted a 60-54 win Saturday in Ligonier.
Bethany junior Ben Bontreger drilled a 3-pointer with 0:18 left in regulation, giving the Bruins a 52-50 lead. A basket by West Noble senior Jake Hutsell at 0:08 tied the score 52-52 and forced the extra session.
Senior Cody Hastings had 19 points seven rebounds and five assists for the winners. Senior Loren Cunningham and Hutsell added 14 points apiece.
Senior Seth Kauffman totaled 21 points, nine rebounds, five blocks and three assists to lead the Bruins. Bontreger added 11 points, junior Hamilton Thorne six points, nine rebounds and five assists.
West Noble (1-1) hosts next Saturday and Bethany (0-2) visits Prairie Heights the same evening.
Jake Sirk tallies 27 as Lakers trim EN
Senior Jake Sirk poured in a career-high 27 points, leading the Lakeland Lakers to a 65-49 win over East Noble Saturday at LaGrange.
His previous best was 18 last season against Prairie Heights.
Junior Adam Garretson tossed in a career-best 13 points for the Lakers. His previous high was two in this season’s opener with Concord.
Lakeland (1-1) hosts Fremont in a Northeast Corner Conference matchup Friday.
