GHS wrestlers are now 13-0

While not at their sharpest, Goshen High School’s wrestling Redskins still put up a big number on the plus side Thursday night.

The Redskins never trailed in cruising to a 58-15 Northern Lakes Conference victory over the Northridge Raiders at the GHS gym.

That puts Goshen at 13-0 overall, 4-0 in the NLC. The Redskins will wrestle five dual meets Saturday in the Hobart Invitational.

“It’s nice to win, but I see where we still could have wrestled much better,” said Goshen coach Jim Pickard.

“We made a lot of mistakes and actually didn’t wrestle very well at all in some cases.

“Despite the outcome and just because we continue to win, we cannot become a complacent team. It’s always nice to win a conference match.

“Our seniors continue to be leaders, but we have some younger wrestlers who are stepping up too.”

Improving their personal records to 12-1 each were senior J.B. Singer at 171 pounds, junior Troy Pickard at 152 and sophomore Ryan Ntende at 140.

Ntende, by draw, was first on the mat and gave Goshen a quick 6-0 win with a pin. Troy Pickard and Singer also pinned their Raider opponents.

Also winning by pin early for Goshen were senior Francisco Garcia at 160, junior Brandon Dillenbeck at 189 and senior Jacob Clark at 285 for a 36-9 Redskin command.

Senior Zack Worcel won by pin at 125 while taking easy decisions were freshman Travis Hanna 15-0 at 103, sophomore Austin Maynard 25-12 at 112 and freshman Travis Pickard to finish the evening 14-0 at 135.

Sophomore Micah Dillenbeck was a 6-2 winner at 130 pounds.

Northridge winners were senior Gary Houser with a 57-second pin at 119, senior Eric Miller with a 7-4 verdict at 145 and senior Rollie White with a pin in 5:16 at 215.

Poll

Indiana is now the only state in the union that prohibits carry-out alcohol sales on Sunday. What do you think about Indiana’s current law?

It’s time to make the sale of carry-out alcohol legal on Sundays.
The state should continue to prohibit Sunday carry-out alcohol sales.
I really don’t care one way or the other.
