Lewis E. Wengerd

Lewis E. Wengerd, 69, 1013 S. 13th St., Goshen, died Friday at Goshen General Hospital’s emergency room after suffering a heart attack at home.

He was born May 27, 1940, in Meadville, Pa., to Ervin C. and Nancy (Yoder) Wengerd.

He married Miriam L. Yoder July 29, 1961, in Hadley, Pa. She survives.

He moved to this area in January 1999 from Hadley.

He had worked as a truck driver for most of his life, most recently with Hovis Trucking dairy transport in Grove City, Pa., for 17 years. He retired in 1988.

In his early years, Lewis hunted deer and small game and he enjoyed freshwater fishing. He thoroughly enjoyed attending auction sales and was an active bird watcher who enjoyed attracting a variety of birds to his feeders. In later years, he took great pleasure in riding his bicycle.

Along with his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Charlene (Mike) Knowlton, Syracuse, Kathy (Mark) Mast, Goshen, Karen Wengerd, Defiance, Ohio, and Nancy Lee (Gary) Tener, Bourbon; a son, Floyd L. (Lisa) Wengerd, Goshen; 10 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; four sisters, Martha Schlabach, Asuncian, Paraguay, Mary Sue (Oscar) Schlabach, Cochranton, Pa., Keturah (Scott) Jones, Summertown, Tenn., and Fannie May (Virgil) Kanagy, Blackville, S.C.; and five brothers, John (Linda) Wengerd, Cochranton, Pa., Ervin (Loretta) Wengerd Jr., Wagener, S.C., Rueben (Sally) Wengerd, Wagener, S.C., Martin (Barbara) Wengerd, Hadley, Pa., and Wallace (Lydia Ann) Wengerd, Wagener, S.C.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Maple City Chapel.

Services are set for 11 a.m. Monday at Maple City chapel, with the Rev. Ron Spyker of Jefferson Brethren Church, and Lewis’ brothers, John Wengerd and Lewis Wengerd Jr., officiating.

Burial will be in Miller Cemetery, Goshen.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family.
