Ruth Stouder Wiest

Aug. 17, 1918-Jan. 25, 2010

Ruth Stouder Wiest, 92, Goshen, formerly of Shavehead Lake, Mich., died Monday.

She was married to her beloved Bob Stouder for 31 years until his passing in 1975. In 1985 she married Dick Wiest, who passed away in 1995. She was also preceded in death by her only child, Delores (“Dee”) Gallagher Duffy and her son-in-law, Don Duffy.

Ruth retired in 1988 after a long career in the banking industry, primarily with St. Joseph Valley Bank. Her hobbies included crafts, quilting, reading, painting and feeding the squirrels, birds and other small animals that frequented her porch.

Because of her exuberance for life, Ruth was known affectionately as “Grandma Kookie” by her grandchildren Denys (May-Brit) Duffy, Dierdre (Fraser) Black, Danielle (David) O’Brien, Deanna (Doug) Lyons and Danu (Joel) McQuade and her nine great-grandchildren — Mina, Devyn, Hannah, Baxter, Clayton, Ali, Laura, Luke and Riley. She will be remembered for her generous spirit, positive attitude, strength, honesty and devotion to those she loved.

A private graveside service will be held at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens where Ruth’s ashes will be put to rest beside her beloved Bob Stouder.

In lieu of flowers, Ruth had suggested memorial contributions to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.chapelhillmemorial.com.
