Mahlon E. Bontrager

Goshen —  Mahlon E. Bontrager, 86, died early Wednesday morning at Greencroft Healthcare after an extended illness.

He was born Aug. 20, 1926 in Shipshewana to Edward and Mabel (Hostetler) Bontrager.

He is survived by four children, Steve Bontrager and Sally Barringer, both of Goshen, Melvin Bontrager, Shanks, W.V., and Mabel (Robert) Goyer, Elkhart; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Laura (Ivan) Smucker, Wisc., and Elizabeth (Irvin) Nisley, Topeka.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Nona Bontrager and Anna Miller; a brother, Melvin E. Bontrager; and a son-in-law, J.R. Barringer.

A longtime area resident, Mr. Bontrager was a member of Trinity Holiness Tabernacle. He enjoyed nature and watching sports.

He worked at Standard Plating for 25 years in shipping and receiving. He also worked a number of years at American Laundry, Goshen.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen, where a 10:30 a.m., Saturday funeral service will be conducted. The Rev. Mike Johnson will officiate.

Burial will follow in Violett Cemetery, Goshen.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
